During the Rainy Season: Fever and Diarrhea

The rainy season often brings much-needed relief from the heat, but it also creates conditions that promote the spread of various infections. Among the most common health issues during this time are fever and diarrhea, which affect both children and adults alike.

Causes:

Fever during the rainy season is commonly caused by viral infections such as influenza or mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and malaria. On the other hand, diarrhea is often the result of consuming contaminated water or food, as the rains can wash germs and waste into drinking water supplies.

Symptoms:

Fever can come with chills, body aches, fatigue, and headaches. Diarrhea usually presents as frequent loose stools, stomach cramps, and sometimes vomiting, leading to dehydration if not treated promptly.

Prevention:

Drink only clean, filtered, or boiled water.

Avoid eating street food or raw vegetables washed in unsafe water.

Use mosquito repellents and nets to prevent mosquito bites.

Maintain personal hygiene and wash hands regularly.

When to See a Doctor:

Seek medical attention if the fever lasts more than 2 days, is very high, or is accompanied by rashes or difficulty breathing. Similarly, consult a doctor if diarrhea persists beyond 24 hours, especially in children or the elderly.

Conclusion:

Being cautious and maintaining hygiene can help you stay healthy during the rainy season. Timely care and preventive measures go a long way in avoiding complications from common seasonal illnesses.
